Launched in 1862 out of the Brooklyn shipyard, the Monitor was the U.S. Navy's first ironclad warship. Designed by American inventors John Ericsson and Theodore Timby, the ship featured a unique revolving turret with two cannons, which, thanks to mods, is fully functional on this model.
It's most notable service was at the Battle of Hampton Roads, where it fought the C.S.S. Virginia until Cptn. John Worden was blinded by a cannon shot to the peep sights, forcing the Monitor to retreat.
